My favorite remote support solution is radmin. Version 3, which took forever to come out, solved most all of the issues I had with the 2.x versions of the product.
Here's what you get with Radmin3.3...
- Fast and secure remote control, remote viewing, telnet, file transfer, and chat
- Works with dual monitor setups
- IntelĀ® AMT support (BIOS remote access and more) New!
- Full compatibility with Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit
- User-friendly interface
- Low System Requirements
- Multiple Connections Support
- Free Technical Support
- Free Trial
- Connection is available after a reboot (runs as a service)
- Hidden tray icon version is available
- "Network reflector" allows you to expose just one computer and port to the internet, then use it to connect to other systems on that network
- You can use internal or Windows authentication
- Once connected, you can start other sessions with that client computer (connect with remote control, then start file transfers without having to log in again)
- Works with 2000, XP, Vista
Radmin is a great product with really good support. It is highly recommended and I use it on every client I support.
To be able to access a remote network, you'll need to open a port and direct it to an always-on computer system (often a server) that can see the rest of the computers on the network.
Where Radmin excels is in being always-on and ready for you to remote in and help your remote site. However, if you need to create a one-time connection to help someone and they are behind a firewall, you might look at using Copilot. Copilot lets you create ad-hoc connections without having to open a port in the firewall. It is a quick fix at $5/day and I've used it to fix Radmin installations that were broken by antivirus or by the user.
That brings up another caveat; make sure you add the server to the exceptions list for your antivirus. AVG antivirus, for instance, has a habit of killing Radmin, unless you put it in your PUP exceptions list.
