Peachtree 2006 Wants .NET 1.1
A client was getting a crash error in peachw.exe whenever they exited the program. It didn't seem to cause a problem with data, but was certainly annoying.
The error was "Peachtree Accounting for Windows. has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Looking into the crash report, I could see the error code was 0xc06d007e.
The solution was pretty simple.
First, I found the c:\windows\system32\config.nt file add changed FILES=40 to FILES=250.
Next, I purged all temp files and temp directories.
Next, I updated to the latest version of PT 2006 (r-4). This wouldn't go automatically so I downloaded it from the www.peachtree.com website.
This didn't fix it. However, during the update it recommended I install .NET 1.1 and directed me to the download site at microsoft. I did this and installed the update and that fixed the error!
The .NET 1.1 install was the clincher, but the other steps are recommended as maintenance steps you should do anyway.

Thanks so much for the post - I've been fighting with Peachtree for a while trying to figure out why it would crash on exit. Turns out I didn't have .Net installed since it was optional and I don't use their payroll forms. Works great since I installed .Net
Thanks!
